In the 1998 the García Barisón
family agreed to get into the olive oil production business
and created Gayba S.A. The next step was to purchase land
in Molineros, Peralillo district in the province of Colchagua,
6th Region: longitude 71.34º west and latitude 34.31º
south after the corresponding studies and prospects were completed.
This dry coastal location has favorable characteristics such
as hot, dry and windy summers, cold winters with little frost,
and no other adjacent agricultural crops; making this enclave
virtually pest-free.
There are presently olive groves
in the area which feature Spanish, Italian and Israeli varieties.
Our industry emphasizes product quality, in keeping with the
premise that the best oil comes from the best olives. Picking
is carefully done by hand and the olives are processed the same
day in the modern olive oil mill which features German Westfalia
equipment with an olive processing capacity of 2,204 pounds
per hour. Aiming for highly selective market niches, Chilean
producers offer unique top quality extra virgin olive oil. Stringent
quality standards for the best varieties, harvesting and processing
are overwhelmed by prizes awarded to Chilean producers at major
annual European quality contests. |
